Highlights

Riders and skiers have the potential to trigger avalanches in large bowls, chutes and very steep steep avalanche starting zones. Above 9000 feet, the chance continues to trigger very large, deep hard slab avalanches in steep north facing terrain. Pockets of soft slab formed during last week's storm can also be found at all elevations, particularly in steep terrain not affected by sunshine and recent warm inversion conditions. Evaluate snow and terrain carefully and identify features of concern.

    Skiers and riders have the potential to trigger slabs formed during recent snowfall that was accompanied by strong southwest to west winds. These slabs could have depths to thirty inches at the higher elevations and are most likely to be found near cliff areas and chutes but could also be found in any very steep unskied terrain including treed areas.

    Weak snow lies near the base of the snowpack on northwest through northeast aspects above 9000 feet. Backcountry travelers have the potential to trigger very large, full depth avalanches on this layer in steep avalanche starting zones. Triggering one of these dangerous slabs is likely to lake larger triggers such as a snow machine or a group of riders.

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )Periods of snow are expected into Friday morning with lingering snow showers to continue throughout the day. Temperatures are to rise from the single digits at all elevations and winds are to southwesterly with ten to twenty mile per your averages.The general avalanche hazard will be Low in the Tetons and Moderate in the southwest trials and Togwotee Pass areas. New snow sloughing wind slabs formed over a week ago could be human triggered in all forecast areas. These slabs are expected to be most prevalent and deepest in the Southwest trails area where they could have depths to thirty inches. A slight chance also continues to trigger deep hard slabs In the Southwest Trails area and even more so in the Togwotee Pass area where a shallower snowpack exists.
