Avalanche Summary

No new avalanches reported.

We suspect fresh wind slabs have formed in the alpine and treeline with the arrival of new snow and wind.

If you do go into the backcountry, consider submitting a Mountain Information Network report.

Snowpack Summary

10-20 cm of new snow is now sitting on a crust from the recent warm temperatures.

The middle and lower snowpack are seemingly well-bonded, but observations have been limited.

The snowpack has an average depth of 50 cm at treeline and 80-150 cm in the alpine. Snow depth tapers rapidly below treeline.

Terrain and Travel Advice

  • Watch for newly formed and reactive wind slabs as you transition into wind affected terrain.
  • Early season avalanches at any elevation have the potential to be particularly dangerous due to obstacles that are exposed or just below the surface.
  • Make observations and assess conditions continually as you travel.
  • Use small low consequence slopes to test the bond of the new snow.
