Jasper.

Winter is coming soon, recent snow storms are a good reminder to check your gear and refresh you skills before heading for the first time of the season.

Weather Forecast

Light snowfall will continue through the start of the week with wind values remaining in the moderate to strong rang at higher elevations. Expect snow transport in the alpine. A warming trend is forecasted later in the week with freezing levels reaching mountain top.

Snowpack Summary

The start of our winter snowpack is developing above 2000m, snow depths rang from 50-100+ cm in the Columbia Icefields region. The snow structure is largely right side up with a widespread supportive crust near the bottom. Windslabs are now present on exposed alpine slopes and will likely continue to develop this week.

Avalanche Summary

Though limited observations were made over the weekend, the potential for skier triggered avalanches to size two exists in wind loaded areas.
