Avalanche Problems

Persistent Slabs

The basal facets and depth hoar layer is between 30 and 50cm deep. This layer produced whumphing in flat terrain near Sunshine Village today. Snow pack tests on this layer produced easy results. Steep open features are to be treated with caution.

Aspects: North, North East, East, South East, South.

Elevations: Alpine, Treeline.

Likelihood: Possible

Expected Size: 1 - 3

Wind Slabs

Wind slabs between 20 and 40cm deep are lingering in leeward terrain in the alpine. Although forecasted to be small in size, wind-slabs that are triggered by riders or climbers will likely result in injury rather than burial.

Expected Size: 1 - 2
