A persistent weak layer near the base of the snowpack is still a concern in steep terrain above an elevation of 8,500 feet. The likelihood for a person to trigger a large slab avalanche on that layer is decreasing very slowly. However, some steep slopes may still be unstable. Due to the potential consequences of being caught in a large slab avalanche and the uncertainties associated with persistent weak layers, conservative terrain choices are warranted. Avalanches are unlikely below an elevation of 8,500 feet.

The likelihood for a person to trigger a large slab avalanche on that layer is decreasing very slowly. However, some steep slopes may still be unstable. Due to the potential consequences of being caught in a large slab avalanche and the uncertainties associated with persistent weak layers, conservative terrain choices are warranted. Persistent slab avalanches up to 4 feet in depth are most likely to be triggered on east through north to northwest aspects between an elevation of 8,500 and 10,5000 feet. Avalanches are unlikely at the lower elevations.
