Salt River and Wyoming Ranges

Shallow wind slabs up to a foot thick may exist along ridgetops which were previously firm, wind-pressed snow or slick crust on southerly facing terrain. Sheltered northerly locations, mostly at treeline, contained drier and deeper faceted snow on the surface. Here you may be able to trigger dry, loose sluffs. Both of these types of avalanches will be small and mostly harmless except in isolated, steep areas. The hard crust beneath the recent snowfall is breakable in some areas which creates another challenge for riding.

Northwesterly winds will continue to increase, reaching the 25-30 mph range in the higher terrain tomorrow. The new snow and wind will combine to build isolated wind slabs, possibly a foot thick, in places with a good fetch that holds adequate fresh snow. Due to the isolated nature of these small slabs, avalanche danger will be Low. The firm and icy surface beneath the recent snow may make these more consequential on steep slopes with the hard crust beneath them.
