Snowpack Summary

A layer of surface hoar is growing on a thick melt-freeze crust that covers the snow surface at all elevations. The exception may be shaded north facing alpine terrain where dry snow might still be found.

The mid and lower snowpack is well consolidated, with several well-bonded crusts scattered throughout.

Snow depth at treeline ranges from 150 to 250 cm, tapering quickly at lower elevations below treeline.

Terrain and Travel Advice

  • Periods of low danger may be a good time to increase your exposure.
  • The snowpack is generally stable; it may be appropriate to step out into more complex terrain.
  • A hard crust on the snow surface will help strengthen the snowpack, but may cause tough travel conditions.
