Temperatures are expected to be cool on Thursday, but if the sun pokes, out some some loose wet avalanches may occur on solar aspects. Watch for day time heating.

Weather Forecast

Thursday will bring cloudy skies, scattered flurries (with little accumulation) and a general cooling of the air-mass. Ridge-top winds forecasted to be SW at 30-40 km/h and freezing levels only rising to 1500 m in the afternoon.

Snowpack Summary

Surface melt-freeze crusts exist on all aspects up to approx. 2300m and higher on solar aspects. On high elevation north aspects dry snow exists. The mid-pack is well settled but has several persistent layers consisting of crusts and/or facets. These are currently unreactive to skier triggering but may wake up as spring heat penetrates the snowpack

Avalanche Summary

A fresh size 3 avalanche was observed on the main highway path on Mt. Stephen on Wednesday. This was likely serac triggered. Otherwise no other avalanches observed or reported.
