Saturday

Increasing clouds with 5 cm of late afternoon snow. 20 to 40 km/h southeast ridgetop wind. Treeline temperature 2 °C. Freezing level 1500 m.

• When a thick, melt-freeze surface crust is present, avalanche activity is unlikely.
• Pay attention to cornices and give them a wide berth when traveling on or below ridges.
• Watch for unstable snow on specific terrain features, especially when the snow is moist or wet.
• Avoid terrain traps such as gullies and cliffs where the consequence of any avalanche could be serious.
