Problems

Wind Slabs

An icon showing Wind Slabs
On Saturday, size 2 slab avalanches were observed on north aspects below corniced ridge lines. Variable winds have created thin slabs on most aspects. No avalanche activity was observed on Sunday however slab bonding has not been tested.

Aspects: All aspects.

Elevations: Alpine, Treeline.

Likelihood

Possible - Likely

Expected Size

1 - 3

Loose Wet

An icon showing Loose Wet
Cold overnight temperatures have formed a supportive melt freeze crust in most locations. Direct sun, warm temperatures and rain will quickly weaken this crust, dramatically increasing the avalanche potential. Pay attention to warming conditions.

Aspects: North, North East, East, South East, South.

Elevations: Alpine.

Likelihood

Likely

Expected Size

1 - 2

Deep Persistent Slabs

An icon showing Deep Persistent Slabs
Recent size 2 slab avalanches have been observed on this layer on NE aspects. These slides were initiated by small loose snow avalanches. These deeper layers can wake up unexpectedly on all aspects.

Aspects: All aspects.

Elevations: Alpine, Treeline.

Likelihood

Possible

Expected Size

2 - 4
