Snowpack Summary

The snow surface is highly variable;  Surface hoar crystals and facets sit above a widespread surface crust that  caps the snowpack. In the alpine some dry but wind-affected snow can be found.

The lower snowpack is well-settled and dense. Snowpack depths vary with elevation. Treeline depths average around 180 cm and the alpine may exceed 300 cm.

Mix of sun and clouds. 15 to 35 km/h northwest ridgetop wind shifting to west. Treeline temperature -2 °C.

Mostly cloudy. 5 to 15 km/h west ridgetop wind. Potential for above freezing layer above 1400 m.

Terrain and Travel Advice

  • A hard crust on the snow surface will help strengthen the snowpack, but may cause tough travel conditions.
