Snowpack Summary

New snow that fell early last week at upper elevations is bonding well with a variety of snow layers underneath, but there might still be isolated wind slab which can be triggered by humans especially along ridge crests (see the MIN report of our field team here). On higher north aspects above 2000 m it may sit on some dry, faceted [weak and sugary] snow. In most other places snowpack is moist or wet throughout with possibly a crust on or near the surface.

Problems

Loose Wet

An icon showing Loose Wet
The snow surface will weaken with increasing air temperatures and sun during the day. This increases the likelihood of thin loose wet avalanches running in steep terrain.
Minimize exposure to steep, sun exposed slopes when the solar radiation is strong.Cornices become weak with daytime heating, so travel early on exposed slopes.

Aspects: East, South East, South, South West, West.

Elevations: All elevations.
