Regions: Jasper.

Happy New Year!

Weather Forecast

Scattered flurries and light westerly and south westerly winds are expected into tomorrow.

Snowpack Summary

Wind slab conditions exist on lee features at all elevations.  The snowpack is characteristic of early season conditions, with a weak structure and highly variable distribution.

Avalanche Summary

Several new slab avalanches were observed on cross loaded features at tree line and above.

Confidence

Intensity of incoming weather systems is uncertain

Avalanche Problems

Deep Persistent Slabs

Several avalanches have been observed on this layer. Wind loaded slopes should be carefully evaluated.
Avoid steep, open slopes.Be aware of the potential for full depth avalanches due to deeply buried weak layers.

Aspects: All aspects.

Elevations: Alpine, Treeline.

Likelihood: Possible - Likely

Expected Size: 2 - 3

Wind Slabs

Avalanches on this layer have potential to step down to weaker basal layers resulting in large slides.
Caution in lee and cross-loaded terrain near ridge crests.Be careful with wind loaded pockets. Be aware of wide variation in snowpack depth

Aspects: North, North East, East, South East, South.

Elevations: Alpine, Treeline.

Likelihood: Possible - Likely

Expected Size: 1 - 2
