Regions: Jasper.
With cold temps, new snow and variable upper elevation winds, watch for pockets of windslab to develop quickly in open areas. Seasonal closures are now in effect in many regions of Jasper National Park, for further details click here.
Weather Forecast
Colder temps and light to moderate winds (N switching to Easterly) will predominate the area in the wake of Tuesdays snowfall, with mostly cloudy skies persisting through the week.
Snowpack Summary
A 'snowpack' exists above 2000m. Variable snow depths from 30 to 80 cm in the Columbia Icefields region. Windslabs exists on NE aspects. Inconsistent structure to the snowpack based on aspect, and elevation require careful evaluation for cohesion at any interface, and new slab development.
Avalanche Summary
Windslab development in lee areas, and gully features are most concerning. No direct observations or reports.
