Problems

Wind Slabs

An icon showing Wind Slabs
Moderate SW winds have been building thin wind slabs on lee slopes and terrain features in the alpine. Slopes look thick and pillowy, but no avalanches were observed and we did not observe any cracking or other signs of propagation on these slabs.

Aspects: North, North East, East, South East, South, South West.

Elevations: Alpine, Treeline.

Likelihood

Unlikely - Possible

Expected Size

1 - 3

Deep Persistent Slabs

An icon showing Deep Persistent Slabs
All though few and far between, large avalanches continue to be observed by large loads (large cornice fall) on this layer. Corniced steep slopes on rocky terrain should be avoided.

Aspects: All aspects.

Elevations: Alpine, Treeline.

Likelihood

Unlikely - Possible

Expected Size

2 - 4
