Deep Persistent Slabs

An icon showing Deep Persistent Slabs
The weak basal facet layer is bridged by a supportive mid-pack below treeline and by hard slab on wind exposed features at treeline and above. This weakness is most likely triggered from thin areas in or on the edge of large open slopes.

Aspects: North, North East, East, South East, South, South West.

Elevations: All elevations.

Wind Slabs

An icon showing Wind Slabs
There is a veneer of wind slab on lee slopes ranging from soft slab on more sheltered slopes to hard slab on exposed slopes. Human triggering is possible which may then step down to the basal facet layer resulting in a large full path avalanche.

Aspects: North, North East, East.

Elevations: Alpine, Treeline.
