Salt River and Wyoming Ranges

Although temperatures are near or above freezing in the mountains this morning the snow pack remains mostly stable. Repeated melt-freeze cycles during the past month have helped to consolidated our snow pack. Wet slides are possible on very steep terrain features. Use caution as even small slides can be dangerous in steep couloirs and cliff areas. Cornices are large and may become unstable. Monitor conditions and avoid steep avalanche prone terrain if crusts have softened to the extent that they have lost their strength and integrity.

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )Moisture will begin to creep into the region ahead of a low pressure system that will be moving inland near the northern California and Oregon coasts. Snow and rain showers are likely on Monday. The freezing level is forecast to be at about 7,600 feet in the morning and rise to around 8,000 feet in the afternoon. Temperatures will be in the 20s and 30s tonight and in the 30s and 40s on Monday. Southerly winds will increase and veer towards the southwest. A mostly stable snowpack exists. A couple of inches of new snow could accumulate at the highest elevations during the afternoon. The general avalanches hazard is expected to be LOW.
