Forecasters are relying on weather models predicting daytime warming which can vary widely. A cool day is expected on Wednesday, but if you encounter warm temperatures default to conservative choices. Start your day exceptionally early.

Summary

Weather Forecast

Expect a good freeze tonight with clear skies.  Clear and sunny again tomorrow with light SW wind and temperatures should remain below cool.    Valley temps are going to be near 0C in the warmest part of the day.

Snowpack Summary

Amidst extensive wind effect and sun crusts in the alpine, pockets of dry low density snow can be found on Northerly aspects.  Expect a breakable to skiable temperature crust below 1700m. Ski crampons/crampons may be helpful to have on hand.

Avalanche Summary

No avalanches were observed or reported in the past 2 days. Although we expect some loose wet to have occurred later in the afternoon with daytime heating and solar input at treeline and below.

Timing or intensity of solar radiation is uncertain

Problems

Loose Wet

Direct sun and warm afternoon temps could start a wet loose cycle late in the day at low elevations. Cool radiant air temps are expected to keep the loose wet problem at bay at tree line and above.

  • Use extra caution on slopes if the snow is moist or wet.

Aspects: South East, South, South West, West.
