Avalanche Problems

Wind Slabs

Variable strength windslabs continue to develop from moderate NW winds. These slabs have not yet proven to be reactive. Continued loading and/or rapid temperature changes or exposure to the sun will wake this layer up.

Aspects: North, North East, East, South East.

Elevations: Alpine, Treeline.

Likelihood: Possible - Likely

Expected Size: 1 - 3

Storm Slabs

The storm dropped up to 60 cm of snow since Tuesday. The snow is now settling into slabs that will become more touchy as wind and settlement occurs.

Aspects: North, North East, East, South East, South.

Elevations: Alpine, Treeline.

Likelihood: Likely

Expected Size: 1 - 3

Deep Persistent Slabs

Heavy loads (large explosives) were able to trigger this layer proving the hidden danger of this weakness. Full path avalanches are possible. Likely triggers will be from shallow areas.

Aspects: North, North East, East, South East, South, South West.

Elevations: All elevations.

Likelihood: Unlikely - Possible

Expected Size: 2 - 4
