Sunny periods may occur between weather systems. IF the sun comes out for an extended time, the avalanche danger will increase on southerly aspects in the alpine and treeline. The sun will also contribute to isothermal conditions in valley bottoms.

Problems

Persistent Slabs

An icon showing Persistent Slabs
Recent natural avalanche activity has declined but this snowpack weakness remains very touchy and easily collapses with skier presence. Expect to see more activity when the windslabs and storm slabs begin to stiffen above this layer.

Aspects: All aspects.

Elevations: Alpine, Treeline.

Likelihood

Possible - Likely

Expected Size

1 - 4

Wind Slabs

An icon showing Wind Slabs
Snowflurries have deposited over 30cm in the last 2 days in the icefields area. SW winds are creating new wind slabs primarily in the alpine and exposed treeline locations.

Aspects: North, North East, East, South East, South.

Elevations: Alpine, Treeline.

Likelihood

Possible

Expected Size

1 - 3

Storm Slabs

An icon showing Storm Slabs
As these slabs settle and stiffen, they will produce small slides that will step down to the persistent buried surface hoar layer.

Aspects: North, North East, East, South East, South, South West.

Elevations: Alpine.

Likelihood

Expected Size

1 - 3
