Storm Slabs

Soft to hard slabs up to 40cm thick can be found in gullies and lee terrain. The condition is less prevalent at Treeline. Observed a couple of size 2-3 natural avalanches scrubbing to ground in the Icefields on steep alpine features near ridgetops.

Aspects: North, North East, East, South East.

Elevations: Alpine, Treeline.

Wind Slabs

Moderate W and NW winds are slowly adding load to the slab features which have weak basal crystals. Some whumphing was observed in the Bald Hills possibly failing on surface hoar layer 25cm down. Alpine snowpack depths are variable.

Aspects: North, North East, East, South East, South.

Elevations: Alpine.

Likelihood: Possible
