Weather Forecast

Mixed sun and cloud forecast for Tuesday with freezing levels rising to 2200m. Upper elevation winds will increase to the mod to strong range by the afternoon.

Snowpack Summary

Surface crusts or "dust on crust" exist on all aspects to 2000m. In the alpine 10-25 cm of recent snow overlies crusts on solar aspects and dry snow on northerly aspects. Good freezes overnight make for solid crusts in the morning that become soft or corn-like in the afternoon (depending on aspect).

Avalanche Summary

No new avalanche activity observed or reported on Monday. Expect to see loose wet avalanches on solar aspects in the afternoon as the day warms up.

Confidence

Avalanche Problems

Loose Wet

Expect to see loose wet avalanches on solar aspect in the afternoon. Pay attention to the solar inputs and how quickly the day is warming up.

  • Use caution on solar slopes if the snow is moist or wet.
  • Avoid slopes when the solar radiation is strong, especially if they have large cornices overhead.

Aspects: South East, South, South West, West.

Elevations: All elevations.

Likelihood: Likely

Expected Size: 1 - 2

Wind Slabs

Rising winds on Tuesday may create small wind-slabs near ridge-tops.

  • Be careful with wind loaded pockets, especially near ridge crests and roll-overs.

Aspects: North East, East, South East.

Elevations: Alpine.

Likelihood: Unlikely - Possible

Expected Size: 1 - 1.5
