Avalanche Problems

Storm Slabs

Heavy snow and moderate to strong SW winds is expected to continue through the evening. A widespread wind/storm slab condition is producing large natural avalanches, especially in the alpine. Avoid all avalanche terrain.

Aspects: All aspects.

Elevations: All elevations.

Likelihood: Certain

Expected Size: 2 - 4

Persistent Slabs

Open slopes on Northeast to South aspects have slabs that are sitting on surface hoar 20-60cm down. On southerly aspects, the surface hoar formed on a sun crust, increasing the possibility of remote triggering and wide propagations.

Aspects: North, North East, East, South East, South.

Elevations: Alpine, Treeline.

Likelihood: Very Likely

Expected Size: 2 - 4
