Snowpack Summary

The snow surface is moist at all elevations but as freezing levels drop to 1000 m on Wednesday afternoon watch for surfaces refreezing into a thick melt-freeze crust. Below the snowpack is made up of a series of crusts and rounded grains.

Overall, the snow depth remains relatively shallow, creating challenging travel conditions and numerous hazards at or just below the snow surface across all elevations.

Terrain and Travel Advice

  • Make observations and assess conditions continually as you travel.
  • Travelling on skis is hazardous due to a very shallow mountain snowpack.
  • Early season avalanches at any elevation have the potential to be particularly dangerous due to obstacles that are exposed or just below the surface.
