Highlights

The general avalanche hazard is MODERATE above 7,500 feet and LOW below that elevation. The snow structure is poor and remains unchanged. Unstable slabs lie upon a persistent layer of weak faceted snow and could be human triggered on steep wind loaded slopes that have not had recent slide activity. These slabs can produce large areas of debris and are especially dangerous above terrain traps. Evaluate the snow and terrain carefully and avoid areas of concern

    Snowmobilers and skiers could trigger dense surface slabs with crown depths of two to four feet or greater through heavily drifted areas. These slabs are most likely to be triggered on north through southeast aspects but could also be triggered on other aspects. In these conditions previous tracks on a slope should not be considered to be an indication of stability.

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )Overnight, some upper dynamics associated with this front could bring some light snowfall with several inches of accumulation to areas along and east of the Continental Divide while areas west of the divide receive a trace to an inch of new snow. Temperatures will fall into the single digits above zero, west of the divide and below zero east of the divide. On Monday skies will slowly clear, temperatures will rise into the teens and winds will be northwesterly at 10 to 20 miles per hour.Large slab avalanches two to four feet in depth could be human triggered on steep, wind loaded slopes in areas with poor snow pack structure. These events are more likely to occur in the Togwotee Pass and the Greys River areas and less likely in the Teton area. The consequences of being caught and buried by one of these slides could be fatal. The general avalanche hazard is expected to be MODERATE at the mid and upper elevations and be LOW below an elevation of 7,500 feet.
