The general avalanche hazard is MODERATE above 8,000 feet where new snow and strong northwest winds have formed pockets of new soft surface slab up to one foot in depth. These unstable slabs lie upon weak layers of faceted snow and good sliding surfaces and are likely to be easily triggered by humans who venture onto steep wind loaded slopes. Below 8,000 feet the general avalanche hazard is LOW, the snowpack is shallow and avalanches are unlikely except in isolated pockets.

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )A few lingering snow showers may bring some minor snowfall to the mountains Sunday evening. Patchy fog is expected Monday morning, followed by partly cloudy skies Monday afternoon. Lows Sunday night are expected to be near zero degrees with highs on Monday in the low teens in the mountains and low twenties in the valleys. AVALANCHE HAZARD FOR THE TETON, TOGWOTEE PASS/CONTINENTAL DIVIDE AND GREYS RIVER/SOUTHWEST TRAILS AREAThe general avalanche hazard is expected to remain MODERATE on Monday at the mid and upper elevations (8,000 to 10,500 feet). Soft surface slabs up to 18 inches in depth formed by southwest to northwest winds lie upon unstable weak layers of faceted snow and good sliding surfaces. These slabs are likely to be easily triggered by humans on a variety of steep wind loaded aspects and are not expected to have gained much stability due to the sustained cold temperatures. Loose snow sluffs are also possible. The general avalanche hazard below 8,000 is expected to be LOW. Below this elevation the snowpack is still quite shallow and avalanches are unlikely except for small loose snow sluffs and isolated pockets of shallow soft slab on very steep snow covered slopes.
