Avalanche Problems

Wind Slabs

Staff triggered 3 size 1 avalanches: one skier accidental and two by explosives in Paradise Bowl, Lake Louise (40 cm thick, 6-15 m wide, and ran up to 125 m). Watch for where the snow becomes slightly more cohesive from wind effect & snow depth.

Aspects: North, North East, East, South East, South.

Elevations: Alpine, Treeline.

Likelihood: Likely

Expected Size: 1 - 2

Storm Slabs

After a brief reprieve, the WSW winds have returned moving the 15-20 cm of storm snow to lee features. Expect storm slabs to be reactive, especially if they sit on the hard slabs from last week's wind event.

Aspects: North, North East, East, South East, South.

Elevations: Alpine, Treeline.

Likelihood: Possible - Likely

Expected Size: 1 - 2
