Weather Forecast
Tuesday is expected to be mainly dry with the sunny breaks. Alpine winds are expected to be light to moderate from southwest in the morning and become strong from the southwest by Tuesday night. Freezing levels are forecast to be relatively constant all week reaching around 1500 m during the afternoons and around 1000 m or lower overnight. Light precipitation is expected for Wednesday but only 1-3 mm is currently forecast. Alpine winds are expected to be strong from the southwest on Wednesday. Light precipitation and sunny breaks are both possible on Thursday with strong alpine winds from the southwest.
Avalanche Summary
No recent avalanche observations have been reported in the region but there is enough snow for avalanches at treeline and in the alpine. If you are out in the mountains, please send us your observations.
Snowpack Summary
Early season snowpack observations are still very limited in the region but the threshold for avalanches has been exceeded at treeline and in the alpine. A report from Harvey Pass on the weekend suggests the snow depth is 110 cm at treeline elevation. The snowpack is reported to be well consolidated below the recent storm snow with a significant rain crust near the base of the snowpack that is well bonded to the surrounding snow. Around 25 cm of new snow was reported from last week plus another 15-20cm of snowfall over the weekend. The snowpack tapers off drastically below treeline and only limited snow coverage is expected below 1500m elevation. If you are out in the mountains, please send us your observations or post on the MIN.
