It's spring time and cornices are big. We have seen several cornice failures over the last week. These have been a mix of human and naturally triggered. Cornices are unpredictable so watch your exposure overhead and underfoot!

Weather Forecast

It's still winter in the Rockies! Monday will start cold and clear and be slightly warmer than Sunday with freezing levels forecast to rise to 16-1800m and light southerly winds. A system moves in Monday evening and we should see 10-15 cm of snow above 1700m. Wednesday looks to be clearing and should be good skiing!

Snowpack Summary

5-10 cm of dry snow sits on crusts that exist on all aspects and elevations except above 2500m on N aspects. This snow has become wind affected in all but the most sheltered locations. Within the snowpack, a series of crusts also exists except for on high elevation north aspects again. Ski crampons are may be useful

Avalanche Summary

No new avalanches reported or observed today. Several cornices failures have occurred over the past few days. These have been a mix of naturally triggered and human triggered by walking too close to the edge on snow covered ridges.
