Lo esencial

Be mindful of any blowing snow into the afternoon and avoid any terrain being actively wind-loaded.

Westerly winds increasing will hopefully keep surfaces cool enough to prevent a Loose Wet problem from rearing its head!

Stubborn Wind Slabs will build across the E 1/2. These slabs will likely deposit rapidly and could be between 10-30cm deep. Look to avoid where possible or use spacing to mitigate this problem.

  • Loose Wet

    • Todas las altitudes

    Unlikely

Loose Wet avalanches will be possible across low elevations and the NW 1/2 up high. Be wary of the FAFL continuing to rise.

Recent Avalanche Activity

There has been no avalanche activity reported in the past 48 hours.

Current Snowpack Conditions

Great coverage at present in the Hutt Range. There are multiple changes in layering throughout the recent snow with numerous rime crusts and density changes. Isolated deposits of wind blown snow up to 30cm deep have been observed in most terrain features lee to the SW. The snowpack below 1800m, on all aspects, has seen some warming and has settled well.

Mountain Weather

Fine, Westerly's fill in by the afternoon. FAFL as high as 1700m.

Sliding Danger

There is no sliding danger right now.

Forecast Confidence

High

  • We have a good understanding of the snowpack structure and confidence in the weather forecast.
