The avalanche danger remains LOW and the snowpack is generally stable. 

Triggering a small sluff or slab that formed from yesterday's wind will be possible in steep, isolated or extreme terrain. 

Cold temperatures this week have improved snow sliding surfaces. 

Expect the weather pattern to change Monday with the arrival of a low pressure system.

The current snowpack conditions can be best described as STALE.

Although we have not seen a snowflake since the middle of December, cold weather this week has slightly improved conditions by loosening and faceting out snow surfaces, the next best thing to actually getting new snow.  Triggering an avalanche today will be unlikely. 

We saw elevated winds on Friday gusting East 20-28mph for 10 hours at 4500'.  During our tour on Friday, we found 1" thick isolated wind slabs confined to ridgeline that were well bonded and unreactive.  Due to the small amount of snow available for transport, triggering shallow winds slabs that formed within the past 24 hours will be limited to extreme terrain on west aspects at upper elevation near ridgelines.  Winds have tapered this morning and are light out of the East.  Shallowly buried rocks will remain the biggest hazard of the day, combined with increasing clouds decreasing visibility by the afternoon. 

We always recommend maintaining good travel protocol even in low danger conditions.

We are optimistic for a change in the weather, with a low pressure system brewing to the south and expected to bring some precipitation to Hatcher's by Monday. Stay tuned for Sunday's Forecast for more information.  In the meantime, help us by performing your favorite snow dance, we prefer The Worm.  If any of your riding buddies are able to successfully execute The Worm, it is rumored to guarantee a snowfall of 45 cm on the eve of January 7th.
