Quick report
The uptrack to Victor Pass was on a firm crust with no red flags or any sign of instability. Once on top of the pass, we used a rutschblock cord to cut a cornice in an attempt to test the slope below, but the cornice would not slide. The weather was partly cloudy all day. A compression test failed at 16 taps on the 35 cm layer. The snow felt very cohesive overall but the wind slabs on the north rim of K-Bowl were still a concern, so we dropped in on a 33° slope between wind drifts. Two runs down showed no signs of instability. The snow quality in the bowl, a firm, dry powder, remained excellent all afternoon. Below the rock walls at the bottom of the couloirs, there were debris from a few recent wet loose avalanches, the biggest of them being a D2. We could also see what looked like either glide cracks or crown remnants of slab avalanches right below the rocks. We stopped our runs at 5300ft to avoid spending too much time in the steeper funnel below these cracks. The snow on the downhill back to the road on the south slope went from corn to mash potatoes to wet cement, our turns releasing a bit of sluff in the mash potatoes section, but an overall stable descent.
