Quick report
10:55 AM test. Slope facing 240°, mostly west, a little bit south. Cross-loaded slope. Snowpack: 65 cm deep; ice crust at 50 cm. Fist softness about 40 cm down, and then four fingers all the way down to the crust. The top 50 cm is basically unconsolidated, loose snow. I’m on a slope with cross-loading. For the upper 25 cm, there was a layer about 5 cm down that went at a CT-2 with a sudden collapse, not a clean shear, and doesn’t appear to be consolidated. The baby burp test might show the shallow layer a little bit better. The ECT test collapsed the top layer at about three hits. Then, about 12 cm down by 10 hits did not get any slab cohesion. When I did a propagation test, I did not get any meaningful data; nothing slid. Looks like a good day to go skiing, since none of these layers are cohesive. It’s a pretty good powder day. There’s definitely a storm slab layer ready to pop off about in the top 25 cm. Overall, I agree with the Sunday avalanche forecast from NWAC.
