We toured up to the shoulder of Diamond with mixed visibility. Topping out the ridge a 4,700ft, I caused a rumbling collapse and whumpf and saw shooting cracks that extended 40-50 ft. Walking up I could see that a large area 60x60ft had collapsed and obvious cracks marked the edges. Digging down we found large facets 20-50cm down that had been the layer of failure. Our snow evaluation on that slope below that point had indicated stability at the new snow/old snow interface. Skiing down we were easily triggering wet loose below 3,000 ft of elevation on steeper slopes.
