Climbed to the summit of Whymper via the West Col. The skin track around the front was firm and fast. After wrapping around the West ridge the skin track became very hard and difficult to maintain an edge. The boot pack was decent. Most of the snow on the climb was fairly wind affected. Dropping off the summit the snow was firm and chalky but skiied quite well. After the first 400m the snow become hard. We tried sticking to S facing aspects in hope of warming. Around 2000m the steep S aspects softened up slightly.
Blue bird day. Sun contained a lot heat but didn't warm the snow up high
