Cruisin' Crowsnest Looking for Avalanches

With some visibility today we headed out to look for avalanches and see how far up the freezing level climbed. At 2100m we found 10cm of new snow on top of a crust that likely formed yesterday after the warmth and rain. The freezing level appeared to be around 2000m during the warmest part of the storm. It was at 1400m today. We observed a deep persistent slab that ran into the flats in a popular area. See avalanche tab for details. The run length of the avalanche is a good reminder to not linger in runout zones. While this practice is good to remember during elevated periods of avalanche danger practicing daily is a great way improve your travel habits.

This avalanche was off Allison peak thought to be 24hrs old. The debris looked wet and likely happened during the warming and sun yesterday.
