Another chilly day at the top of the summit. But at least the wind back off a little! We headed out in the dick creek area looking to catalog avalanche activity that occurred last Saturday when it warmed up.
Surfaces are wind hammered. Pockets of soft snow do exist, although they're isolated to sheltered areas. No recent avalanche activity. During the Saturday wind slab cycle a few large cornices release and only trigged wind slabs below, none of them stepped down onto a persistent layer. This is building our confidence in the absence of a persistent slab problem in Haines Pass.
