Heading up the first ascent portion of the Patterson climb. Noticed wind affected snow on the flats and the area we were about to climb. Pit results showed us that it was unlikely to drop down to surface. After about twenty minutes of kicking steps we heard a whumpf. We were close to each other at this point, looked for a way to get in the trees nearby. Our next movements triggered the avalanche. Fracture line was above us both and about 40m across. I was swept away quickly and the whole slope ripped to ground with me in it. My friend was able to jump out and hang on to a tree. I rode about 200m into the creek, buried about 5-6 ft in the debris. Roughly 7-8 minutes of burial time before my friend dug me out. I was breathing slightly, but I wasn't responding. I came to, and assessed the injuries. A hurt knee, but enough to walk out.
