Today we took the show on the road to the Hazeltons and it was hot.
Warm temperatures had us over heating sleds on the approach but we found the new snow line at 800m which helped the cause. At 1500m we had 10cm of moist new snow atop the melt freeze crust.
It was cloudy and lightly snowing on us mid day but we got blessed with some sunshine just as we had to head back down.
In snowpack testing at 1500m on a Northerly aspect, we found 160cm of snow and no results in extended column tests. We did get a moderate result in a compression test with a sudden collapse, non planar, below the melt freeze crust down 20cm.
Below this the snowpack is well settled and made for some of the tougher digging we've had this season.
