went up golden horn plateau for a little solo ride to check how recent wind and warming has affected the snow. 4ft of loose facets from the cold spell have consolidated into <1ft of rock hard wind affected snow, often allowing my heavy skandic to ride on top of even the hollow sections
came across a size .5 avalanche in a small gully approx .5m crown, 100m long but only ran about 5 m downslope due to how short the slope is. appeared to be sled triggered on the weekend.
always good to remember that avalanche conditions can exist everywhere there is snow - even in familiar terrain close to home, not just the pass. I find it easy to get complacent in this type of terrain and this was a humbling reminder. happy riding!
