Emerald Slide - Bailed

Einstein coined the phrase “spooky action at a distance” - although he was referring to quantum mechanics, today we experienced it in avalanche conditions. Our group bailed 400 m up the slide path after feeling whumphing and propagating collapse when stepping off of the skin track. Shooting cracks were also observed up to 20 m. Temperatures were above zero degrees, making the snow wet and heavy. See pictures for visualization of collapsing surface hoar layer.
