We rode into Tommy 1 today and spotted several loose wet avalanches coming out of steep, rocky terrain above the access road, but not much else for avalanche activity. The freezing level was sitting around ~1800 m, with 15–30 cm of settled storm snow from the past week on a soft crust up to about 2000 m. The crust is patchy and breaking down, and travel conditions overall weren’t too bad. Certainly could benefit from a bit more snow...
Surface hoar is widespread at lower treeline in sheltered areas, and likely still present on north-facing slopes where it avoided wind before getting buried by the storm snow. Fingers crossed freezing levels don’t climb as high as forecast this week 🤞
