Dug a full profile on Sale today to get a better understanding of our early season snowpack. Full picture from my note book in the attached. Pit was dug on a small convexity above a mellow slope. Did 3 column tests with varying results. 3x CTM18 down 22cm Resistant Planar - in a small density change in recent storm snow. 2x CTH(25/30) down 97cm Sudden Collapse - Failures were on a small amount of Facets size 1-2mm that went previously unnoticed in initial observation. More investigation needed for a better grasp on the faceting process happening around these small crusts. Also noticed a large temperature gradient in the top 60 cm. Min -8.6 Max -3.3 (full temperature gradient in attached picture.) Small amounts of already-decomposing Surface Hoar was noted on the surface size 2-4mm
