Another round of skier vs. wind affect. Based on great skiing yesterday on a similar aspect, we went out for a beautiful day up the Asulkan. It was obvious early on that the wind had done its work in the alpine, with good ski quality no longer the expectation. Variable wind affect/ press from ~2000m up while travelling to Sapphire col, with no shooting cracks or significant slab properties observed. Repeated moderate RP shears down 15 found at the top of the run, with minimal cohesion to the wind affected snow above. No other results found in 1m deep columns. Turns out there was enough cohesion a few turns in, and the first skier triggered a sz 1.5 soft slab. Ski quality was OK at best (terrible?), nice riding found closer to the mouse trap. Slow exit out the valley.
15-25 cm thick wind-pressed soft slab. Local winds were mostly NE'ly.
