At 4700’ Burt south a Nw aspect I exposed 80cm of snowpack to take a look at layers. What I found was a (K)nife hard top crust layer of about 5cm on-top of 25cm of (P)encil hard snow with a slight change to P+ For 5cms before switching back to 35cms of P hard. I found a K hard crust here on top of P hard snow. The cog was firm on the way up and just past 4400’ we had to switch to booting as the skins were just not grabbing the sheet of ice we were traveling on. Boot pen was minimal and if it wasn’t for the weekend boot pack traction would have been necessary. When at jacobs ladder walking on a small hill I got shooting cracks on the 4/1 melt crust which was about 1-1.5” thick

Increasing clouds through out the tour with moderate gusts that would come every so often. Giving the snow no chance to soften even at the base of the cog
