Quick report
Skied Tallac today, and found a variety of surfaces, but no instability and good skiing. The first slope I skied was SE facing from 9700’ to 9500’, and was corn-like snow with some pseudo penitentes and texture. On my descent at 11:30, there were no rollerballs or signs of loose wet instability. I then skied a NNE facing couloir feature, and this held several inches of faceted surface snow, that was relatively unaffected by the wind. I then popped out into the broad bowl feature, and skied predominantly SE facing slopes from 9k down to about 7.5k. I encountered well developed melt-freeze corn snow the entire way down, which actually became more supportable as I descended due to the inversion, which had made the freeze better at lower elevations. The North Bowl had plenty of raised tracks and wind affect, but this was also beginning to facet and was relatively soft. Similarly, on several other northerly slopes that had firm wind affected surfaces under the several inches of new snow from last week, faceting had softened these surfaces and helped decompose the wind board somewhat.
