Quick report
Partially sunny westerly windy morning gave way to bluebird mostly warm calm day. Upper Jobs Canyon from just under 10.5K’ North-facing high point on ridge between Jobs and Jobs Sister skied very well without any signs of instability (w occasional crusty spots easily avoided) and looked to continue well as the drainage turned north-easterly and steepened. Due to my concerns with complexity of exit back to Freel/J.S. saddle (per prior day’s entrance adventure) as well as concerns about water supply and headlamp battery life, I decided to play it safe and head out earlier (and glad I did as even the exit I planned from Job’s turned out to be more complex then forecast: gully steeper and icier and ascending traverse to saddle would be complicated by headlamp due to mix of melt out sections, vegetation and large wind pillow steppes). Barely made it Freel/J.S. saddle by headlamp time, but luckily ski from there into Freel gully and then traversing exit at about 9.5K’ went mostly well with selective surface conditions. Snow surface I found for skiing was typically passable to good (and at times outstanding, sheltered, more northerly), although impossible to avoid all wind-bumpiness in Freel Gully or crustiness thereafter. Zero signs of instability noticed all day (though the giant wind pillows on Jobs Sister’s east face looks touchy from afar). Also be advised that some large snow-cat like vehicle tore up High Meadow road pretty well making for a sketchy exit in spots if you don’t know it’s coming.
