Quick report

AM was snowy with just a bit of rainy precip mixed in. Quickly transitioned to all snow, and slowly tapered off throughout the morning. Afternoon was partly sunny, no wind was observed all day. There was a decently thick crust over the snow surface consistently from the parking lot to the lake. But, throughout the day the slightly above freezing temperatures seemed to soften it a bit, although it was still there when we skied down around 2pm. In the trees, the surface crust was much harder to find. Skiing on the road wasn't great (didn't dare venture off of it), but it still got significantly worse when we got below the last switchback. Snow was compact, firm, and hard to edge on. Another big concern was the lake's ice thickness. When digging near it's edge for rescue practice, we found very saturated snow just about a foot beneath the surface. We quickly backed off.
