Mostly sunny skies this morning with a gradual increase of thin high cloud cover. SW winds were calm throughout the morning with a gradual increase early afternoon. No blowing snow was observed.
Snowpack
We arrived at the trailhead with mostly sunny skies and calm conditions. Yesterday's warm and sunny weather wetted the snow surface on most aspects with a thin firm melt freeze crust forming overnight. This included lower angle northerly aspects where sun and warming are now having an effect. Tree drippings and tree bombs also added refrozen snow surface conditions under trees. As we gained elevation, around 1 foot of cold recently settled storm snow existed on steep northerly terrain. Above around 9000', the surface snow was colder on more aspects and had less wet snow and tree drippings from yesterday. Thin high clouds increased throughout the day becoming mostly cloudy by the early afternoon. SW winds did increase by early afternoon, but remained mostly in the light range with no blowing snow observed at this point. Around 1' of soft snow exists along ridgelines in this area for wind transport as winds increase later today. Below around 7400', snow coverage becomes very thin in this area.
