Quick report
We got a late start and went for an early afternoon tour in the Mt Judah zone. Driving up from Truckee the snow line from this morning’s showers appeared to be right about the 7000’ level with wet roads and melting snow in the parking lot. About a quarter inch of new snow at the trailhead. Solar aspects had a thin to one inch crust, ridgelines were wind scoured, while shaded and true north facing aspects still held mostly cold and soft snow. Small to no cornice along most of the Judah ridgeline. Winds were light to medium from the east, with clouds blowing in mid afternoon and keeping things cooler than we expected. We saw old debris from the wind slab avalanches previously reported, but we did not see or feel any signs of ongoing instability as we skied the steep windloaded upper zones.
